Mark D. Bitterlin, President Bitterlin Companies, Inc.
Founder in 1980 of San Diego Property Management. Currently manages and operates 85 commercial and multi-family properties in San Diego County. Graduate of United States International University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Former Director of Operations, San Diego Military Academy, a 17-acre private facility with 200,000 square feet of facilities and a residential capacity of 250 students.
Mr. Bitterlin was featured on the front page of the business section of the San Diego Union Tribune as a leading authority in real estate market trends in San Diego County. Current business relationships include banks, trust companies, private trustees, the Diocese of San Diego and several major corporations.
Mr. Bitterlin specialized in Trust Real Estate Assets with an emphasis on Commercial and Multi-Family projects, including Office Buildings, Industrial, Shopping Centers, Apartment Buildings, and Land Subdivisions.
Mr. Bitterlin represented the Diocese of San Diego on the $12,000,000 acquisition of 55 acres of land in the Otay Ranch area which is the new location for the South San Diego County Catholic High School. He also represented the Bishop on a similar acquisition of 18 acres in Otay Mesa which is the new site for St. Jerome’s Parish and Elementary School.
Mr. Bitterlin is a building rehabilitation expert and has completed numerous successful building rehab projects. Mr. Bitterlin served as President of the Point Loma Rotary Club and as chairman of the Foundation Board. He is past President of the Point Loma Association, and a Board Member of the Estate Planning Council of San Diego. A native San Diegan, he resides in Point Loma with his wife, Anita and their three children.

Bitterlin Development Corporation
Bitterlin Development Corp. is a 20 year old real estate development firm associated with the Bitterlin Companies, Inc., a real estate brokerage and consulting firm, and San Diego Property Management, a real property and asset management firm. Its first projects in 1986 were small apartment projects and it has since been involved in major entertainment, and residential and mixed-use developments.
Mr. Bitterlin is a graduate of the University of Southern California (1975) and Santa Barbara College of Law (1984). Admitted to the California Bar in 1984, Former Head Tennis Professional at Montecito Country Club in Santa Barbara, California 1975-1984. Chairman of eleven USTA National Championship Tournaments. He has been President of Bitterlin Development Corporation since 1986.

Coors Amphitheatre: Bitterlin Development developed this 20,000 seat outdoor concert venue in Chula Vista for Universal Concerts, Inc., a division of Universal Studios. It opened to rave reviews on July 19, 1998. During its first season artists such as Elton John, James Taylor, the Spice Girls, and Jimmy Buffett performed to audiences from the entire Southern California region. Through the 2006 season, over 2 million patrons have attended shows at Coors. Bitterlin’s efforts concluded a 14 year search on behalf of Universal to develop a world class musical entertainment facility. Bitterlin’s involvement at the Chula Vista site started with site identification, management of the property transaction and project approvals and continued through design and construction until opening night. Bitterlin Development received an AIA Orchid Award in 1998 and The Pollstar Music Industry Award for Best New Venue in North America for 1998.
Knott’s Soak City (Formerly White Water Canyon): Bitterlin Development was hired to secure the necessary land deal and all entitlements for the development of the 32 acre White Water Canyon Water Park in Chula Vista, CA. Bitterlin represented owner-builder-contractor, Hice Enterprises. The water park opened on May 30, 1997. It is adjacent to the Coors Amphitheater project and, together, they comprise a 100+ acre family entertainment area that has revitalized an area that became a casualty of the real estate recession of the early 1990’s. The combined site was a former industrial park that was transformed into a world class entertainment zone.
San Diego Unified Port District – Acquisition of SDG&E South Bay Power Plant: On the heels of the completion of the Coors Amphitheatre and White Water Canyon, Mr. Bitterlin was retained by the Port District for purposes of project management and leading the negotiations for the $112 million purchase of the South Bay Power Plant. The project consists of a 164 acre site on the San Diego Bay in Chula Vista. Within a 60 day period in late 1998, the Port District and Duke Energy agreed to terms of a purchase, lease and bond financing arrangement. The transaction closed on schedule in April, 1999.
Spotlight on Broadway in Chula Vista, CA (spotlightonbroadway.com): Bitterlin Development, in partnership with Concordia Homes, acquired, entitled and developed this mixed-use residential / retail project on Broadway in Chula Vista, CA. Completed in 2005, the project contains 49 residential units, 9 of which are lofts above 10,000 square feet of retail. Built within the redevelopment area of Chula Vista, this project, on 2.5 acres, has helped jump start the revitalization of western Chula Vista.
40 acre subdivision – Exeter, CA: Bitterlin Development completed this 105 unit upscale, large lot subdivision on 40 acres in Exeter, CA, a community just east of Visalia, CA. As part of the project Bitterlin built a 4 acre park and dedicated it to the city of Exeter in memory of Daniel Unger, an Iraq war hero who died in combat in 2004.
Mr. Bitterlin is active in the San Diego Country Club, La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, Cathedral Catholic High School, The Point Lake and Golf Club in Mooresville, NC and was a former youth football coach with Kearny Mesa Pop Warner Association. He lives in the Point Loma community of San Diego and Mooresville, NC north of Charlotte with his wife Robin and they have three children, Alexandra 24, a 2004 graduate of USC, Micaela 21, a Senior at USC and Andrew 19, a Sophomore at Davidson College in North Carolina.
